Families

Anticipated Absence Form process:

  • Parent fills out the top portion of the Anticipated Absence form with student and absence information at least 3 days before the absence. Absences will be entered as unexcused until the work assigned has been completed and signed off on by the teacher within 5 days after the student returns to school.
  • Parent turns in Anticipated Absence form to the teacher. Teacher will complete the assignment section.
  • Teacher turns in the form to administration for approval or denial.
    1. If administration approves the absences, they will sign the form and send home with the student.
    2. If administration denies the request for absences, they will notify family.
      1. Reasons for denial include poor grades or excessive absences
  • After the absences, turn in the Anticipated Absence form with the completed work for the teacher to sign off within 5 days.
  • Teacher turns in the Anticipated Absence form to the office. The office will change the unexcused absences to excused absences after all steps have been completed.

Just a reminder,
any time missed from school counts against a child’s attendance.  A gentle reminder, medical appointments, activities or clubs, music lessons, etc. should be scheduled after 3:30pm.  We recently have had a lot of kids being picked up between 2:00pm and 2:45pm.  We think parents don’t realize that even these early pick-ups are documented as an absence from school.  In addition, at GWE, we use our whole day for instruction. Any missed school is tough for our kiddos to make up!

Parents and schools need to work together for the betterment of the students. Parents play an important role in providing support and building the confidence of their children. Parents should check some of the tips or activities they can use to develop their children’s confidence and improve their school experience.
